How Severe is Demodectic Mange?

Standing in the middle of a stark white veterinary office hearing everyone hustling and bustling around me saying words like skin disease and demodectic mange. Having no idea where I was or why all of these two legged humans captured me and tossed me into a big box, then into an even bigger truck. I was stunned. I thought I was doing fine living on my own, and living off the land and what scraps I can find on the streets. Living on the streets was not to hard, that is until I got this demodectic mange they are talking about now. I might just be a dog to some people, but I was a good dog at one point in time. It was when this mite called Demodex canis got on my skin and started burrowing their little .25 mm bodies into the actual hair follicles in my nice full fur coat, that my life began changing. Apparently not all dogs get this mange and the reason I got it was because my old human did not take very good care of me. They kept me in poorly kept and dirty kennels with several other dogs. Apparently my immune system got bad and that made it to hard for me to fight of the Demodex canis.

This new batch of humans is not so bad, they actually want to help me. I am actually learning a lot from listening to them. And they think I do not understand them. I did not know that the demodectic mite spends their entire little life on me from beginning to end. The eggs are laid there by a pregnant female, they hatch, then they mature from the larvae state and grow to adults. It generally takes 20 days to 35 days for that entire process. And I am itching uncontrollably from beginning to end also!

What I did not understand was how I got it in the first place, but as soon as the question popped into my mind one of the ladies answered it for someone else. They explained that the mange is transferred from one dog to another dog by direct contact. So I had to have gotten it from another dog that was crammed into that tiny little kennel with me. So chances are all of my other dog friends have the same thing. I sure hope they help them out as much as they are helping me out.

All I am waiting to see is what they are going to do in order to make me feel better, because these little nasty things are driving me insane. I was very happy when I found out that medicated baths and skin cleaning are the remedy! I have not had a ton of baths, but if baths are what will cure this itchy, red, irritated flesh; then I will definitely let them do that! I guess it is time for me to let the humans do their job and help me feel better!
